Alexis Ibarra-Ibarra
Hello, cake lovers! This is Day 2 of my October Ink Challenge: Yellowjellover, which is #inktober52/#inktober2020* + #linktober2020. I’ll be posting my work every day, so please keep an eye on The Cake | us vs reality !
Here’s day 2: “Shadow” + “Princess”

Artist: Alexis Ibarra Ibarra
Tecnique: ink + Fabriano {hand drawn}
Date: September 2020
Mixing the ideas of “Shadow” from inktober52 and “Princess” from linktober2020 was the second challenge I had to face.
Luckily for me, the concept of “Shadow” is widely explored in The Legend of Zelda; still, I wanted to be original, so for this task, instead of relying on Midna, possessed Zelda or the typical damsel in distress, I took Princess Ruto and gave her a dark twist.
This is the first time I’ve ever drawn something on this type of Fabriano paper, but now, I’m completely in love with it! Its texture gave a little extra “something” to the drawing: it almost looks like an old papyrus, so I felt the need to write a background story for this character.
When I stare at this portrait, my mind wanders around imagining:
“The Legend of the Black Water Princess“
Beautiful and proud,
utterly brokenhearted,
relentlessly crying at the side of the Imperial pond,
the water Princess looked at her own sad reflection,
wondering how much time of pain was left inside of her.
.
The Timeless Hero rejected her silently,
and, silently,
she could only but imagine herself
mindlessly swimming to the freezing bottom of the sea,
finding, at last, her true, final peace.
.
Under the last ray of moonlight,
her ache, nothing but pain,
looked right back into her eyes.
.
As the Daughter of Water itself,
when she tried to console her own shadow,
she touched the pond with grace
and immediately faded away.
.
Like black watercolor on crystal clear river,
her grievance spread into her full bloom Empire.
.
Her tender sweetness diluted in the stream,
but her anguish was painted into a princess again:
A Water Princess so ruthless, deluded, and greedy;
a Water Princess that would conquer them all;
a Water Princess that was nothing but darkness;
The Black Water Princess started to reign.
I really hope you liked my drawing and my story!

* I made a mistake and worked with the Prompt List of #inktober52, which is the weekly drawing challenge that goes all year round, instead of the October daily challenge of #inktober2020… I’m new at this, so I’m sorry! Still, I am happy with the results, and I’ll be attaching my artwork to the #inktober2020.
