Hey guys! I decided to create my own October Ink Challenge: the YELLOWJELLOVER! I’ll be posting my work every day, so please keep an eye on The Cake | us vs reality !
YELLOWJELLOVER is a mix of:
#inktober2020 + #linktober + #love! *
Here’s day 1: “Flight” + “Beast/Monster”
This was my first challenge, and I was really nervous about it. I knew that, in order to create an art concept melting the topics “flight” from #inktober52 and “beast/monster” from #linktober2020, I would need to be kind of creative and skilful.
Maybe a dragon looks very obvious now, but it wasn’t when I was trying to melt the two words into one single artwork.
I guess my biggest issue was to face the fact that I needed to draw MY FIRST DRAGON EVER! That is probably the reason why I did not think of a dragon immediately: my subconscious was trying to protect me from failure by censoring the evident.
For this dragon, I decided to imprint my dusty childhood memories about Volvagia from Ocarina of Time and mix them with my not so dusty, but still kind of dusty, memories about the dragons from Breath of the Wild. I tried to pour into the canvas some of the childish fear I experienced when I battled Volvagia for the first time; hopefully, you can feel it too. I love ink and details, so drawing the scales and the claws were particularly delightful for me. Specifically, I’m proud of the flow of the loops and the movement of the body.
I am pretty satisfied with the final result, so I am glad that I overtook the challenge of drawing a dragon for the first time! I think I’ll revisit dragons in my works soon, and maybe, I’ll even try to paint a giant one on a big canvas, who knows?
I really hope you like it!

What do you think about my artwork? Should I paint a giant dragon? Please share a slice of your opinion in the Comment Section below! I’ll be thrilled to read your comments!
The artwork was drawn and is owned solely by Alexis Ibarra Ibarra 2020 ©. Any intention of using it for commercial and/or advertisement purposes should be adressed directly with the artist.
* I made a mistake and worked with the Prompt List of #inktober52, which is the weekly drawing challenge that goes all year round, instead of the October daily challenge of #inktober2020… I’m new at this, so I’m sorry! Still, I am happy with the results, and I’ll be attaching my artwork to the #inktober2020.
